Dr. Oldenburg received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the U. of Wisconsin, Madison, and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCLA. He spent 6 years working for a startup biotech company, Affymax, which was ultimately purchased by GlaxoSmithKline. Following his work at Affymax, he became the Director of Drug Discovery at DuPont where his team was responsible for discovering lead compounds for many different diseases. He left DuPont in 2000 to found his first company, MatriCal Bioscience, where he and his engineering team developed novel automation and robotics to accelerate drug discovery in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology areas. MatriCal also built automation for agricultural research companies such as Pioneer, Bayer Crop Science, and Syngenta to assist in the discovery of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and new plants. He sold MatriCal Bioscience in 2013 to Brooks Automation. He founded 2nd Sight Bioscience in 2014 with a focus on using automation, robotics, and new technologies in the field of agriculture. He currently serves as the CEO and President of 2nd Sight BioScience.

Margo L. Buckles graduated with a B.A. in Political Science/Spanish from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; a M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles; and a J.D. from University of California College of Law in San Francisco. After law school, Ms. Buckles worked as an employment litigator, first for the Internal Revenue Service and later as an associate for Pepper Hamilton and Gallagher, Schoenfeld, Surkin, Chupein & DeMis in Pennsylvania. Upon moving to Spokane, Washington, she joined Matrical Bioscience where she was corporate counsel and oversaw all aspects of the administration of the business, including human resources. Upon the sale of Matrical Bioscience, she helped start 2nd Sight with Dr. Kevin Oldenburg.
